HOMECOMING

2018

The future of life sciences industry

9-10th of 2018

Biomedicum Campus Solna, Roche Stockholm

What happened?

An early afternoon in October, 80 MBE-alumni and first year's students were gathered to discuss the future of life science.

The event started with a lunch before a mini hackathon was introduced by the hosting company Roche. The challenge for the mixed teams, of both MBE alumni and MBE students, was to come up with a new innovative solution that potentially could fit in the company's future pipeline. The hackathon was finished off with a pitch competition of the ideas.

Next up was fika and an inspirational talk by Björn followed by an intense guesstimate competition which ended with a cava mingle.

Thereby, a delicious dinner was served and the alumni and students had a great time mingling and networking. The bar that was set up was busy throughout the evening. At 9pm, a bus picked up the attendees to continue the party at TAK in central Stockholm.

This was indeed a night to remember, not only for the alumni to have a reunion - but also for the new students to get the ability to network get inspired.

Learning from Failure

30th of September 2017

H2 Health Hub, Stockholm

What happened?

After the success of the debut BEACON event, the 2017 team had a challenge to meet our alumni’s high expectations! We wanted to make the Homecoming day an event, our alumni would want to come back to year after year.

Our theme was ‘Learning from Failure.’ Most successful entrepreneurships have experience failure at some point on their journey- our event focused on how to turn that experience into big success (or millions of $$$$!). Listen to Jack Ma (founder of Alibaba) turn his failure into a $470 billion fortune here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WUnnsbL8rk)

We started with an inspiring talk from Antonio Garzón-Vico about learning from failure and success in the context of the biotech industry (spoiler: biotech companies fail often!). Take a look at his research here (https://people.ucd.ie/antonio.garzon/publications)

We also introduced a fishbowl discussion (https://www.betterevaluation.org/en/evaluation-options/fishbowltechnique) so our very own bio entrepreneurs could share their failure stories. Thank you to all the volunteers for your bravery!

Our favourite story:

“UBE’s very own Anna Birgersdotter explaining how she hid a secret message (for a free beer) in her doctoral thesis for any reader that completed it- that beer was yet to be claimed!”

As always, we finished off the night with a delicious buffet and a long night of partying at the club SENSE (http://www.sensestockholm.nu/)

See you all again next year :)

HOMECOMING

2016

1st of October, 2016

H2 Health Hub, Stockholm

What happened?

2016 marked the debut of the BEACON Homecoming event. When we created BEACON, our mission was to strengthen the relationship between Bioentrepreneurship alumni and promote networking between current and former students by exchanging knowledge and experience.

So how do you do that when our alumni live all over the world?

The answer was the BEACON Homecoming event! We wanted to create an event worth flying across the world!!

The Homecoming event is not just another networking event. We focus on making the event as FUN as possible- whilst keeping it relevant and useful of course.

It would be fair to say we achieved our goal- with alumni flying in from all over (including China!) to attend.

The theme was Homecoming, where did the Bioentrepreneurship programme actually come from?
